A Kitchen Makeover

A modern kitchen makeover

When North Canterbury residents Tracey and Jamie wanted to revamp their 1970s kitchen – their love of entertaining was a key element of their brief. They turned to the team at Millbrook Kitchens to get this project going.

Tracey wanted the new space designed around the beautiful 1200mm freestanding oven they were buying.

They also wanted to have optimal workspace and a more open feel with a large clutter-free island space where they could serve food. The timber profiled doors, the closed off L-shaped bar and the dated look and appliances clearly had to go.

“Because of the era of the home I didn’t want a traditional kitchen, but I also didn’t want it to look too modern,” says Tracey.

“I feel the freestanding oven, subway tiles and the concrete engineered stone benchtop have achieved that balance.”

For Millbrook Kitchens one of the key challenges was doubling the space required for a fridge when Tracey bought a separate Liebherr fridge and freezer. They were worried this would have a negative impact on the need for more storage – but with their skill and expertise they were able to work through the issue by adding a pullout storage unit and, more recently, adding a pantry/ laundry area to store less frequently used items.

Tracey and her family are delighted with the final result. “The new kitchen has transformed the living area and made the space feel so much larger,” she says.
