New café opens in Rangiora West

Residents in Rangiora’s ever-expanding western suburbs are now well-served by a new Kiwiana-style café.

Located opposite the Plough Hotel, The Fat Cat Café offers trendy décor, wholesome homecooked-style food and a great selection of coffee and tea.

Browse the café’s magazines, while relaxing over a leisurely brunch or lunch. Brunch options range from muesli through to hearty bacon and eggs, while the lunch menu has many tempting winter warmers from soup of the day, to lasagna, cottage pie, pasties and bacon and egg pie.

The cabinet selections include carrot cake, muffins and scones, generous slices, wraps, baps and baked potatoes.

Coffee is from the Crafted Coffee Company, founded by Carl Sara, four times New Zealand Barista Champion.

Tea is also something of a specialty, from English breakfast through to pomegranate, mango fruit and green teas, all supplied by Harney & Sons. You may well want to take some tea home – tins are available for sale.

Café proprietors Daryl and Anna Hills also own The Fish Bowl takeaway, next to the café. Developing the café has been a long term dream. They renovated what had been a storage space and takeaway waiting area over a period of five months, before opening the café.

Expect more changes over time, with more ‘sit down’ meals planned for the menu.

The Fat Cat Café, 399 High St, Rangiora. Ph 03 313 6787. Hours: Tues to Friday open from 7am to 4pm, Saturday open from 8am to 4pm, Sunday open from 8.30am to 4pm.
