Sovereign Palms Show Home: Beauty in bluestone

 Words: Kim Newth

Wanaka’s rugged good looks and unique architectural styles provided the inspiration for Mike Greer Homes newly opened show home at Sovereign Palms, Kaiapoi.

This beautiful and contemporary home, on Sovereign Boulevard, displays a love for timeless stone and clean, crisp lines. Viewed from the street, it has boundless appeal with eye-pleasing contrast between its predominantly white plaster walls and black Coloursteel Longrun roof/black aluminium joinery.

Hardy Timaru Bluestone is tastefully worked into the exterior walls, echoing the stone used in landscaping at Sovereign Palms.

With many Kaiapoi red zone residents on the hunt for housing and ideas for new homes, there has been very strong interest in this show home since it first opened on August 27.

Visitors have been universally praising the home’s distinctive entranceway and foyer, with its dramatic cathedral ceiling and use of cedar tongue and groove.

The kitchen is also impressive with its splash back and feature glass in burnt orange, as well as a large kitchen island finished with a waterfall end-stone bench top.

A two sided gas fire is a special feature of the lounge and dining areas.

This desirable 243m² four-bedroom show home on a 703m² section will be open for approximately 12-18 months.

Mike Greer has been building homes in Canterbury for more than a decade and is one of the South Island’s leading home builders, with offices in the West Coast, Wanaka and North Canterbury.

In this region, Mike Greer Homes is owned and managed by two locally based tradesmen, Mike Flutey and Craig Bailey. They are both very knowledgeable, with considerable experience in the building industry. Operating out of offices at Lilybrook Centre in Rangiora, Mike Greer Homes North Canterbury has excellent working relationships with local contractors and suppliers.

It is a measure of their reputation in North Canterbury that this business is experiencing strong growth. An additional salesperson and another project manager have been employed recently to help keep up with demand.

“We are very pleased to have this new show home in Kaiapoi which is easily accessible to Kaiapoi people who are now starting to look for solutions to their own housing needs,” says Mike.

This particular show home has been created with families in mind. One of the bedrooms is a real teenage retreat and the master bedroom is thoughtfully located away from the other two bedrooms. At the same, open plan design provides plenty of space for family living.

As well as a free concept design service, the specialized team provides full project management. A Master Build Guarantee provides various protections, including 10 year cover on any structural defects.

The clean crisp lines of the black and white exterior of this show home have been replicated throughout the interior.

Highly polished floor tiles, glass mosaics tastefully inserted into the entranceway floor and the timber veneers throughout the kitchen/dining area show deliberate and effective use of contrasting materials. The overall effect is a visual delight.

Bold colour in the kitchen showcases how a splash of colour can instantly “warm” a room while teamed with a neutral palette. The clever use of wall tiling adds texture to the dining room and again in the lounge on the double sided fireplace. This not only adds interest but also keeps the natural elements of the home alive.

The entry tiling has been continued through into the main bathroom, laundry and toilet while the ensuite has been finished in a more natural sandstone tile with a feature glass mosaic running through the shower wall.

While the interior is predominantly white, splashes of colour have been added into the children’s bedrooms. The addition of a funky study desk adorned with storage will be a treat for any teenager. An elegant theme has been reserved for the master bedroom with gorgeous black voiles, silver and white wallpaper and crisp white linen all designed to create a luscious escape.

The furniture and furnishings have been carefully chosen for this space with the use of quality pieces for functionality and as well as aesthetics.

Andrea Robertson Design can create a space for your individual needs and would love to work with you on your next dream project.
